Football Manager 2023 Main Update 23.3
The Main Data Update for Football Manager 2023 (PC/Mac) is now live, complete with updated squads following the recent transfer window*.
The Main Data Update is also now live on FM23 Console (Xbox and PS5), FM23 Touch (Apple Arcade and Nintendo Switch™) and FM23 Mobile (iOS/Android).
More than 3.7m database changes are incorporated within the Main Data Update, including alterations to the Current Ability levels of thousands of players around the world based on their real-life performances in recent months.
We have already detailed in our blog dated February 20th how the tragic events in Turkey and northern Syria are being handled in-game.
This update also contains fixes and improvements across multiple areas of the game. All gameplay adjustments will take effect in current careers, although you will need to begin a new save game to take advantage of the data updates.
Changes in the 23.3 update include, but are not limited to:
· Stability and crash fixes
· Fixes to reduce mistakes from bad touches in certain areas of the pitch
· Fixes to defenders not preparing correctly for crosses in certain situations
· Improvements to defender reaction to long through balls
· Tweaks to make attacking players move quicker to support counter-attacks
· Improvements to how AI managers use different midfield role combinations
· Improvements to central defender and defensive midfielder positioning from long goal kicks
· Improvements to how attacking wide players track back when defending
· Fixes for defending wide indirect free kicks at the edge of the area
· 'Header won' statistic now only counts contested headers
· Improvements to the Recruitment Focus logic
· Fixed cases of reserve or youth team tactics appearing blank in the Development Centre
· Tweaks to development loans for AI teams
· Improvements to fixture scheduling, particularly the frequency of consecutive home or away games
· Updated substitution rules across various competitions

Match Engine 23.2.0.0:
Key changes
- Fixes to reduce mistakes from bad touches in certain areas of the pitch
- Fixes to defenders not preparing correctly for crosses in certain situations
- Improvements to defender reaction to long through balls
- Increased number of progressive passes being played to central attacking teammates
- Reduced the number of erratic longshots being attempted, particularly in possession-focused sides
- Tweaks to make attacking players move quicker to support counter-attacks
Misc. Changes
- Increased the number of overhead kicks being attempted
- Improvements to how AI managers use different midfield role combinations
- Improvements to central defender and defensive midfielder positioning from long goal kicks
- Improvements to how attacking wide players track back when defending
- Fix for making three substitutions in the first half will lead to users being unable to make substitutions at half time
- Fix for goalkeeper positioning being too high when defending certain types of free kicks
- Fixed a rare issue where two yellow cards didn't lead to a sending off
- Fixed a rare issue where there was no highlight after a goal was scored
- Fixed various goalkeeper bloopers
- Fixes for defending wide indirect free kicks at the edge of the area
Stats
- 'Header won' statistic now only counts contested headers
- Fix for Team direct free kick goals displaying incorrectly
- Fix for collecting a clearance being counted as an interception
- Fix for a tackle not being counted as an assist if it led to a goal
- Fix for a player not given an assist if the cross came from a free kick
Gameplay:
- Improvements to the Recruitment Focus logic
- Improvements to how AI value the next sale percentage clauses
- Improvements to International squad selection logic to help younger players get called up more often
- Decreased the training injury frequency rate
- Fixed an issue where no conversation being generated when high-profile players were left out of international squads
- Fixed an issue where players appear in recruitment focus recommendations despite being on the user's 'not interested' list
- Fixed an issue where players that have played in inactive leagues aren't recognised as having played for two clubs in a season
- Fixed an issue with non-EU player registration in Italy
- Fixed an issue where users weren't correctly told which stage of playoffs the board expected them to reach
- Fixed an issue where staff were asking for unsuitable roles
- Fixed an issue where high CA players retain relatively high physical attributes late in their careers
- Fixed cases of reserve or youth team tactics appearing blank in the Development Centre
- Fixed cases where Youth Intakes generate newgens with unrealistic nationalities from certain regions
- Fixed an issue where users were unable to enter the MLS Drafts
- Tweaks to development loans for AI teams
- Tweaks to trial offers
- Tweaks to playing time happiness incorrectly dropped for star players
- Tweaks to the playing time calculation for backup and fridge players
- Tweaks to interest levels of young players
Art & Animation:
- Fixed an issue where certain manager man glasses are missing parts of the rims
- Fixed an issue where the background environment of the UEFA Pre-match tunnel was displaying incorrectly
- The 3F Superliga will now use the Brilliant Super UZ v23 as the new match ball
Competitions and Rulegroups*:
- Improvements to fixture scheduling, particularly the frequency of consecutive home or away games
- Implemented a new format for Malaysian leagues, Swiss Super League and Uruguay Second Division
- Fixed position sorting rules for the new 24/25 format UEFA Club Competitions
- Fixed an issue where the wrong teams go to the Playoffs in the Peruvian First Division
- Fixed a registration-related issue for African continental club competitions
- Fixed a fixture scheduling issue in Croatia
- Updated substitution rules across various competitions
- Updated the Asian qualification format to the World Cup 2026 and Asian Cup 2027
- Updated the Irish First Division to a 10 teams league in 2023
- Various updates to Brazilian state championships
- Various updates to the English FA Trophy
UI/UX:
- Fixed an issue where the penalty counter stop updating when the match reaches sudden death
- Added further explanation to format changes for the UEFA Club Competition within inbox items
- Added filters in the Recruitment Focus result screen
Online and Achievements:
- Improved the logic for some of the online idle preferences
- Fixed an issue where some achievements weren't unlockable in the Microsoft Store
- Fixed an issue where the achievement panel doesn't match the game language user has selected
- Fixed an issue where users can't join online games when the client's game language is Turkish
- Fixed an issue where the Fantasy Draft registration didn't work correctly in the 2nd season of draft
- Fixed an issue where the Fantasy Draft pauses by itself
*For Competition specific changes to take effect a new game may be required.
Please note that the update may go live at different times on each platform.
Most updates of this nature should download automatically but if yours doesn’t, simply quit and relaunch Steam or the Epic Games Store to prompt it to do so. If you’re playing via the Windows Store or Game Pass, you may need to manually search for the update.
You can manually check for updates on Xbox by hovering over Football Manager 2023 Console, pressing the menu button, navigating to 'Manage game and add-ons' and selecting 'updates'.
On your iPhone and iPad, apps that you download from the App Store are automatically updated by default. If there's an issue, you can update an app manually.
For FM23 Mobile players on Android, the game should update automatically. You can update manually by opening the Google Play Store App and tapping the profile icon. From there, tap ‘Manage Apps and Device’. Apps with an update available are labelled 'Update available'.
For FM23 Touch (Nintendo Switch™), if you’ve enabled the Auto-Update Software option, the update should automatically install. If not, you’ll need to ensure that the console is connected to the internet and then from the home menu, select the FM23 Touch icon to update it.
